The Challenge | Scenario

With the increasing incidences of crime and gang-related activities occurring in Trinidad and Tobago’s high risk communities, there was a need to provide novel solutions that could effectively reduce these threats and create a safer environment for their residents.

The Solution

The Ministry of National Security partnered with Ross ReThink to develop an anti-crime programme using its Intangience™ methodology, leading to the creation of a ground-breaking initiative called the Hoop of Life. Launched with Shaquille O’Neal, it was designed as a basketball competition between sixty communities over a four month period, with 720 gang members vying for cash prizes and bragging rights.

Results

By combining members of rival gangs on each team, the competition was played without any negative incidents occurring during each of the highly competitive games, and was supported by huge community turn outs at the basketball tournament.
